Gordon will miss his morning show on Radio 10 tomorrow, because his flight from Australia has been canceled due to the war in the Middle East. “Now I have to take a monstrous detour.”
The United States and Israel attacked Iran yesterday, after which the country launched a major counterattack against at least seven countries. Dubai has also been affected and numerous flights to the emirate’s airport have therefore been cancelled, including that of Gordon, who has been on holiday in the Australian city of Sydney in recent days.
Monstrous detour
Gordon was actually supposed to leave Sydney last night Dutch time, but he canceled Instagram: “Dear people, what a shock. I see the images of the complex where I lived for three years, The Fairmont Hotel next door and the Burj Al Arab bombed, a drone at Dubai airport.”
He continues: “I would have left at six o’clock this morning, but my flights have been cancelled. Understandably, of course, so now, via a monstrous detour, via Bangkok, Istanbul, I don’t know what, I’m going back to the Netherlands, so unfortunately I won’t be there tomorrow morning for the broadcast, but my team is informed.”
Pure force majeure
What does Gordon’s team think? “They were very understanding, so well, it’s pure force majeure. I’ll be back on Tuesday morning, hopefully safe. Well, I’m actually still a bit in shock from all the images I’ve seen. Anyway: I’m on my way.”
He sighs: “Luckily I was able to find a flight…”
