Inter, Chivu: “Scudetto? We must continue to march”

The Inter that in Europe does not regulate the Bodo Glimt and does not even cling to the round of 16 of the Champions League is the same team that imposes a terrible tyranny in Italy, a dictatorship that has rarely been seen with such ferocity on these screens. Beyond the Norwegian regrets, Cristian Chivu’s journey in Serie A has been shocking so far, even more so considering the start with hiccups and the two defeats in the first three. The Romanian, almost without attracting attention, with a dry style and a precise Italian priority, is biting into pieces of Nerazzurri history one after another: he has obtained 67 points after 27 matches and it is the third time this has happened in almost 118 years of being Nerazzurri. In 2023-24, a starry season, there were 72 and in 2006-07, year I post Calciopoli, as many as 73. Given how the season has gone, without the European lifeboat, Chivu now wants to get closer to maestro Mou: if he cannot be dizzy with a treble as with José, let him at least be an Italian “double” with the Scudetto and Italian Cup, an undertaking only achieved by the Portuguese. It is an obvious mission, which no one hid before the Vikings’ move to San Siro, let alone now that it has become almost a necessity: “The team is doing well, no one ever has a long face after the Champions League – admitted the coach – We have a winning mentality and we always accept the reality of the facts with ambition and the desire to be competitive. Of course, we have ups and downs but we take the good things done so far”. At that point, a strange and sudden dig was thrown outwards: “My boys always question themselves, also because it’s never enough, given what is created every time around Inter: a narrative is created about us that is far from reality, nothing ever goes well and we have never been given the credit for 5 years.”

In the domestic journey made so far, the clear trait of the Romanian’s Inter is the greed with which it has always sat at the small-medium sized table: from September onwards 100% of the available points taken home. “We treat all matches the same way. But the championship hasn’t been won and there are still 33 points to go: we have to keep marching.” The first leg derby against Milan had also hurt due to the context in which it was placed: it had fueled that strange fear of a direct clash which, however, did not slow down the Nerazzurri’s escape from the Scudetto. Of course, the victory against the Devil has been missing since April 2024 when, on the road, the Nerazzurri definitively gained a star: “It’s not a match point against Milan, I’m only thinking about Como”. If anything, the problem could be Bonny, who left in a bad way: “They told me he’s no good but I don’t trust him anymore: they told me a thousand times and then something always came out and I had to wait a long time to have my players available again. So let’s wait.”
