A KLM spokesperson told NH this. The plane took off from Amsterdam last night, before the news of the attacks was known. The spokesperson could not say how many passengers were on board or whether other flights were stranded after the recent attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran.

Earlier today, KLM canceled the only scheduled flight to Tel Aviv. According to a spokesperson, this will no longer take place “for safety reasons”. Israeli authorities have also halted civil aviation in the country in preparation for possible Iranian counterattacks.

Hotel accommodation for passengers

Passengers are offered a hotel stay for the night from Saturday to Sunday and therefore also for Sunday to Monday. It is not clear when people will be able to fly. “We continue to monitor the situation,” a spokeswoman said.

A flight from Amsterdam to Riyadh and Dammam on Sunday is also canceled. Passengers have been informed and as soon as possible they can take another flight, KLM said. A flight from the Netherlands to Dubai is planned for tomorrow evening, but whether it can go ahead will be decided later.

Travel advice code orange and red

KLM currently does not fly through the airspace of Iran, Iraq and Israel or over several countries in the Gulf region. The attacks may have even more consequences for KLM flights to the Middle East. The airline is still mapping this out.

The travel advice is orange for almost the entire United Arab Emirates and even red for the islands of Abu Musa and Tunb. The latter means that traveling here is not recommended.

Several airspaces closed

Israel and the US launched an offensive against Iran this morning. They want to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. According to American media, the offensive could last days.

Iran has launched a counterattack, following which the airspace in several countries in the Middle East has been closed.
