Premiere victory for new coach Daniel Thioune: Werder Bremen scores big points in the relegation battle against 1. FC Heidenheim – and shortens the gap to the rescue bank.

Salvation in the basement duel: thanks to Jovan Milosevic Werder Bremen stopped his series of bankruptcies and won a Bundesliga game for the first time in 13 games. Coach Daniel Thioune’s team beat bottom-placed 1. FC Heidenheim 2-0 (0-0) in the crisis summit after a good performance and has new hope in the fight against relegation.

Milosevic made the Werder fans, who had been suffering so often recently, celebrate with his goal in the 57th minute, and Hennes Behrens (90th + 7) also scored an own goal shortly before the end of the game.

The last to the second to last – there was no more pressure on the Weser. And Werder coped better with the pressure, after 113 long days Milosevic and Co. once again won a threesome. For Thioune, Horst Steffen’s successor, it was the first win after three defeats in his first three games. As a result, Werder initially improved to 16th place in the relegation zone.

Coach Frank Schmidt’s Heidenheim team, on the other hand, can no longer be saved; the statistics clearly speak against them. Because: With only 14 points after 24 games, no team in the age of the three-point rule has managed to stay in the league at the end of the season.
