PSV won the away match against bottom line Heracles Almelo without much difficulty: 1-3. In this way, the leader from Eindhoven increased the relegation concerns of the team of coach Ernest Faber, who has only won against Fortuna Sittard in the eleven competition matches since his appointment.

This time PSV had less trouble with a relegation candidate. The team of coach Peter Bosz surprisingly lost to Volendam two weeks ago.

Earlier this season there was a home defeat against Telstar and a draw at home against NAC Breda. The leader has 65 points from 25 matches. Feyenoord follows on 48 points and will play an away game with FC Twente on Sunday.

PSV, where Armando Obispo and Myron Boadu were preferred to Yarek Gasiorowski and Ricardo Pepi, took the lead in the ninth minute. Rhys Bozinovski committed a clumsy foul on Sergiño Dest, after which Ivan Perisic scored from the penalty spot.

Three minutes later, Ismael Saibari completely silenced the home crowd. The Moroccan international found the far top corner with a placed shot that goalkeeper Remko Pasveer could not reach.

PSV generally passed the ball around calmly and had little to fear from the home team. After a tight cross from Joey Veerman from a free kick, Dennis Man headed in the 3-0 five minutes before half-time.

The Romanian attacker was not covered by anyone from Heracles. At the start of the second half, Bosz brought on Gasiorowski and Pepi for Obispo and Boadu. The national champion slowed down even more in the run-up to Tuesday’s KNVB Cup semi-final against NEC.

It resulted in several opportunities for Heracles, but they were not spent on Ajdin Hrustic, Thomas Bruns and Naci Ünüvar. In the eightieth minute, Lequincio Zeefuik had the home crowd cheering. His hard shot from distance ended up nicely in the far top corner.

Heracles couldn’t make it more exciting. Heracles’ deficit to FC Volendam (which occupies the safe fifteenth place) is 7 points.

Captain Schouten is happy with the first half, but not at all happy with the second half

Captain Jerdy Schouten is happy with PSV’s first half at Heracles Almelo (1-3), but is not at all happy with the game after the break. “That was just not good. I think that is very special, especially because the first half was very good. Then we were very concentrated and stuck on the ball, as you want to see us,” said 29-year-old Schouten at ESPN.

“In the second half it collapsed and it became very sloppy. Then they were able to get through it well. Then you see that such a team revives again and then it becomes difficult for us. But I was not worried about the victory for a moment,” said Schouten.

The semi-final of the KNVB Cup awaits in Nijmegen against sub-topper NEC on Tuesday. “I hope we can perform like the first half.”
