National player Rune Dahmke has extended his expiring contract with handball record champions THW Kiel.
Shortly before the game against VfL Gummersbach kicked off, the 32-year-old announced in a message on the video cube in the Kiel Arena: “Dear Zebra fans, I was always there and I’m still staying.” There was great cheering. Dahmke signed until 2028.
The left winger moved to Kiel at the age of 15. In 2014, the trained real estate agent signed his first professional contract.
“If you like, I grew up with and with the zebras – both sportily and personally,” Dahmke was quoted as saying in a statement.
Coach Filip Jicha said: “As a coach, you always want to have someone like Rune on your team. He shows commitment, will and perseverance. He has the ambition to continue to develop and always do what is important for the team’s success.”
With Kiel, Dahmke won all important titles in club handball, including the EHF Cup (2019) and the Champions League (2020). With the national team he won the European Championship title in 2016, Olympic silver in 2024 and European Championship silver in 2026.
