Cafu “cheers” Pontedera: here’s the reason

Brazilian greetings for Pontedera. An illustrious former footballer like “Pendolino” Cafu sent them to the Tuscan team, last in group B of Serie C and playing the away match against Pesaro tomorrow, Sunday 1 March. But why, one wonders, would one of the strongest full-backs ever, twice world champion with the green and gold shirt (1994 and 2002) and in Italy with Roma and Milan from 1997 to 2008, have made the commitment to send “good luck” to the small club coached for two weeks by Piero Braglia and practically unknown overseas? There is a logical answer and lies in the fact that after a negotiation that began last August, a few days ago, from Thursday 19 February, 95% of the company’s shares were taken over by Sportheca, the main sports start-up factory in South America based in Pinheiros, Sao Paulo. Founded about 6 years ago and focused on technological innovation and in the sports and entertainment sector, Sportheca, which controls Pontedera through the newly established Br Football Italia based in the same town in the province of Pisa (a necessary step to facilitate normal routine operations with the Italian federation), has long had close relationships with the major football clubs in Brazil (and beyond) and consequently with famous people such as Cafu.
