At the World Cup in Serbia, Kevin Drury was unable to finish the race – and then reported back with a moving update.
Kevin Drury’s ski cross career ends abruptly – and differently than planned. After the serious fall at the World Cup in Kopaonik, Serbia, one thing is certain: the Canadian will no longer compete in any more races.
In the grand finale there was a serious incident during the race on Friday. Drury’s compatriot Reece Howden originally triggered the fall, causing a chain reaction: Florian Wilmsmann also fell to the ground, then Kevin Drury and Tim Hronek collided with the fallen German. While Hronek and Wilmsmann were able to continue the race after a few minutes, Drury still had to be looked after on the slopes.
The 37-year-old was still awarded second place at the green table. Victory went to Hronek, third place to Wilmsmann. However, Drury was absent from the official award ceremony as he continued to receive medical care.
A little later, the Canadian reported on social networks. In his Instagram story, he showed his injured right leg, which is thickly bandaged from the thigh down. There is currently no information on the exact diagnosis. But one thing is clear: Drury is ending his career with immediate effect.
“Not the end to my career that I wanted,” wrote the 37-year-old and added: “But I’ll take the podium.” He had previously announced that this would be his last season.
There are still four World Cup weekends left – without Drury. After all, he can look back on a long career: six World Cup victories, 19 podium places, the overall World Cup triumph in 2019/20 and World Cup bronze in 2019 are among his greatest successes.
