Daniël Lohues will release a new album on Wednesday, March 4. The album, entitled ‘Jager’, will be released on the day his new theater tour starts. The singer from Erica continues a tradition: there is always new work at the end of February or the beginning of March.
In a conversation with RTV Drenthe, Lohues says that he actually always records. “I can always record,” he says. This time it resulted in a completely new album. The announcement had been in the air for a while after he mysteriously shared the date March 4, 2026 on social media earlier this week. That date now appears to be the release day of ‘Jager’.
According to Lohues, Jager is a title with multiple layers. Many songs were created while he was on the road, driving a large American pickup. That image is also reflected on the bright red album cover: a forest on the left, a city in the distance and in the middle a man who looks like Lohues in an American truck. “I’m always hunting in the car myself.”
Last year, Lohues traveled through America again, a country that often appears in his work. He leaves it open whether he actually drives through the United States on the cover. “Everyone can decide that for themselves.” What is certain is that the journey and being on the road have left a clear mark on the new songs.
The release of ‘Jager’ coincides with the kick-off of his theater tour. Traditionally, Lohues starts in Hardenberg. He will conclude the series at the end of June in the ATLAS Theater in Emmen. A large part of the new album will be included in the performance. There has been intensive rehearsals over the past week.
This time the tour schedule also includes Carré in Amsterdam. Lohues has been performing annually in De Kleine Komedie in Amsterdam for about twenty years, but now he has his own program in the Royal Theater Carré. He has previously performed there with Gitaarjongens, together with Henny Vrienten, but never before with a completely unique performance. “That’s crazy, fantastic,” he says.
The first single from the album is ‘En de wind mar weijen’. In that song, Lohues sings about how people can worry about all the misery in the world, while outside time just blows by. A string quartet was brought in for the song. Lohues says he loves strings and wanted to emphasize that sound on the record.
The album will first appear online on Wednesday. This is followed by the CD and later also vinyl, which as usual takes a little longer. The record cabinet of Lohues enthusiasts will become a bit fuller again. “I think making records is the best thing there is,” he says. “I’ve always wanted to do that, and I’ve always done it that way.”
