Ole Werner is apparently coming under increasing pressure at RB Leipzig. As “Bild” reports, the 37-year-old’s work is being discussed more and more internally. The mood is getting colder, they say. Accordingly, a coaching discussion would arise at the Red Bulls if Werner and his team did not win at Hamburger SV on Sunday (7:30 p.m.). RB would then have been without success for four games across all competitions.
With the third most valuable Bundesliga squad – 434.4 million euros – Leipzig is currently only in fifth place. However, the Champions League ranks are within reach at two points. And this is the only goal that counts, they say. A second year without qualification for the premier class is unacceptable. The chairman of the supervisory board, Oliver Mintzlaff, had only recently publicly emphasized: “The first goal with this young team is the Champions League.”
The Saxons were on course for a long time before a downward trend recently set in. Only three wins were achieved from the last ten league games. Internally, it is viewed critically that the team dominates and shines at times, but then lacks the final punch. Like last time against BVB, when a 2-0 lead was given away. Even against supposedly smaller clubs, RB has problems finally winning games on its side. In addition, the Saxons improved quality when making substitutions, which is something that should be criticized. Nevertheless, the bosses should continue to trust Werner to achieve the set goal. The many successes from the first half of the season and his ability to make individual players better would speak for him.
After HSV, the other opponents for Leipzig are FC Augsburg, VfB Stuttgart and TSG Hoffenheim. “The last third of the season is starting and the course is being set,” says Werner, who has scored an average of 1.85 points from 27 games so far.
