A medical emergency occurs in the closest circle of Formula 1 driver George Russell. His partner then comments and gives an update.
A moment of shock for George Russell shortly before the start of the 2026 Formula 1 season: the Mercedes driver’s girlfriend had to undergo emergency surgery. Carmen Mundt herself published this in a story on Instagram that is no longer available.
In the photo, the Spanish influencer is lying in her hospital bed – with Russell very close to her side. “My favorite nurse,” she jokingly wrote. And revealed further information: “It was appendicitis,” explained Mundt. “The operation went well and I am now recovering in good company.”
Mundt had previously kept her followers updated about her health and wrote of “persistent vomiting for over twelve hours.” That’s why she had to postpone a project that she had “worked on for almost two years” for the time being. “That will have to wait until I’m back on my feet.” And further: “This is a reminder that life is not always as perfect as it looks on social media.”
Mundt and Russell have been a couple since 2020 – they came together in an unusual way: A friend couldn’t make it to a date, so he stepped in, Russell once told “Sun Sport”. They immediately discovered similarities: “She told me that she was from the south of Spain and that she wouldn’t expect anyone to know her small hometown. But I knew for sure, it was quite a coincidence.”
What’s more: “She didn’t know who I was, she didn’t know Formula 1, and none of it bothered her. She’s very down-to-earth and we share the same values.” Russell finished fourth in the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship last season. He is currently preparing for the 2026 season, which begins on March 8th.
