Goedele Liekens finds the way in which Soundos El Ahmadi recently railed against presenter Bart Schols on Flemish television to be rude. “The way it was done was of course very nice heavy.”

The noisy comedian Soundos El Ahmadi (44) went crazy in a Flemish talk show at the beginning of the month. She was angry about the downplaying way in which presenter Bart Schols (51) spoke about the subject of insecurity for women. “You’re going to be quiet for a moment,” she screamed at the startled Belgian (see below).

Less popular

René van der Gijp brings in the Today Inside Yesterday we discussed the popularity of celebrities in Flanders. “Marc-Marie is popular there, right? A lot of Dutch people… Those Soundos, that Marc-Marie…”

The Flemish table guest Goedele Liekens then says: “Soundos is a little less so now, isn’t it? Soundos has spoiled it a bit now of course, hasn’t it?”

Host Wilfred Genee: “With those comments the other day?”

Tackled hard

Goedele thinks Soundos is rude. “Yes, she was in that program about misogyny and she tackled Bart so harshly,” she says, imitating the comedian.

Wilfred is surprised: “That was right, wasn’t it?”

Goedele: “Yes, in terms of content that was right, but the manner in which it was done was of course very heavy. He is a journalist, he asks a question. Yes, you cannot say to a journalist: ‘You must keep your mouth shut, you are not allowed to ask a question.’ That’s not possible. He made a very stupid comment.”

“You don’t say that.”

Wilfred does not understand the problem. “Yes, that’s why. Then she can say something like that, right?”

Goedele: “Yes, but then you don’t say: ‘Yes, but you have to keep quiet now, because you are a man.’ When we talk about female insecurity on the street and so on, you cannot say: ‘Men should not get involved in that.’ We need men in that debate. It’s not like all men are bad.”

She concludes: “Men in particular must help us to stand up to those few bad men. She was absolutely right in substance, but if you start cursing and shouting and saying ‘you should keep your mouth shut’, you won’t get any further.”
