Manuel Neuer will probably still be left out. He will not be there in the classic against BVB.
FC Bayern Munich will probably play the German Clásico without captain Manuel Neuer. Neuer, who suffered a torn muscle in the middle of the month, was most recently represented by Jonas Urbig.
“It’s actually looking good for Manu, we thought he might be out longer,” coach Vincent Kompany said at the press conference on Friday. “But I would still like to discuss it with Manu again.” Kompany has probably done that – and doesn’t want to take any risks.
Both “Bild” and later the TV channel Sky reported that Manuel Neuer will miss the game against BVB. While the Bayern entourage made their way to Dortmund on Friday afternoon, Neuer drove home in his company car. It’s supposed to be a precautionary measure so as not to endanger the rest of the season.
Jonas Urbig will be in goal again. Neuer suffered a torn fiber in his left calf in the game against Werder Bremen on February 14th (3-0) and was substituted at half-time. Because of the injury, he also missed the duel with Eintracht Frankfurt (3:2).
A win for FC Bayern against Dortmund would almost decide the championship with a lead of eleven points. Kompany emphasized the importance of the game, saying: “It’s a classic. So for me it’s always its own title.”
Dortmund suffered a painful 4-1 defeat to Atalanta Bergamo in the Champions League on Wednesday and Kompany was cautious about their reaction. “Mentally it’s always something, but what comes out of it can go either way,” he said. FC Bayern had a good week and are ready for the important duel. “We felt that it was a classic week. It was this healthy poison in training that I love,” said Kompany.
