Willem II has not yet managed to definitively seize the third period. On Friday evening everything seemed to be going in the right direction for the people of Tilburg. The team itself won 0-3 at FC Emmen, while Jong PSV drew against FC Dordrecht. This causes the Tricolores now in the lead in the third period standings. Yet the loot has not yet arrived. The team is certain of participating in the play-offs. We’ll explain it to you.
SC Cambuur won at Top Oss and can still pass Willem II in the standings for the period title, because the Frisians have played fewer matches. Willem II is certain of participation in the playoffs for promotion.
Lots of scenarios
There were a lot of scenarios before the final round of the third period. SC Cambuur had the best credentials, but still had to catch up on two games and already has a period. The ticket for the playoffs therefore moved to second place in the period. FC Dordrecht had the best chance of taking over that ticket, but then they had to win at Jong PSV.
The Eindhoven team could also come top in the period with a win over Dordrecht. But they are also not allowed to participate in the play-offs, because young teams are not allowed to promote. In that case, the play-off ticket would go to third place.
Below that in the rankings was Willem II. They could come away as a laughing third if they won themselves and if Dordrecht lost points to Jong PSV.
Young PSV – FC Dordrecht
And that happened. The Tilburg team played very strongly in Emmen and took the lead after half an hour after assist king Nick Doodeman’s goal. In the second half it became 0-3 after goals from Devin Haen and Uriel van Aalst.
In the meantime, Jong PSV – FC Dordrecht was being watched with a slanted eye. PSV took the lead thanks to Sami Bouhoudane. The Sheep heads They leveled fifteen minutes before the end, but were unable to win again.
As a result, Willem II is at the top of the period with 17 points in nine games and they are therefore certain of participation in the playoffs for promotion. Whether they will actually win the period remains to be seen. SC Cambuur still has two games to catch up and is only one point below Tricolores in the third period standings.
