Thrilling Friday evening in the 2nd league. In the end, two teams that were in a relegation battle were able to celebrate.

Small liberation for Dynamo Dresden in the relegation battle of the 2nd league. In the home game against second-placed Darmstadt 98 on Friday evening, they won 3-1. Vincent Vermeij (45th/45th+2) and Christoph Daferner (81st) scored the clear success in the end. Yosuke Furukawa only managed the next goal for Darmstadt (90th).

There were also two red cards in the thrilling duel: first Patric Pfeiffer had to take a shower early because of an emergency brake (42nd), then Dresden’s Jakob Lemmer was also hit because of repeated foul play (53rd).

In the second game of the evening, Fortuna Düsseldorf won 2-1 against VfL Bochum. Also an important victory for Fortuna in order to make progress in the fight against relegation.

Darmstadt 98 surprisingly made a mistake in the promotion race. At relegation candidate Dynamo Dresden, coach Florian Kohfeldt’s team lost 1:3 (0:2) and missed the jump to the top of the table after the end of the series of 13 league games without defeat.

Vincent Vermeij’s double strike (45th/45th+2) made Dresden celebrate after Darmstadt’s Patric Pfeiffer (42nd) was shown the red card due to an emergency stop. After yellow-red against Jakob Lemmer (53rd), the Saxons, who climbed out of the relegation zone with their third home win of the season, also played with ten men. Christoph Daferner (81st) increased, Yosuke Furukawa (90th) scored late for the Lilies.

The two teams got off to a lively start in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium. The guests had their first good chance, having to do without the ill Fraser Hornby, among others, but Dynamo keeper Tim Schreiber parried against Niklas Schmidt (21′).

Shortly before the break, events came to a head: First Pfeiffer slipped and then knocked Ben Bobzien off his feet. Referee Lars Erbst sent the defender off – much to the displeasure of Kohfeldt, who was angry on the sidelines. Then Vermeij struck coldly: first with his head, then with a volley.

The second round began with the next sending off. After two fouls in a row, the game ended prematurely for Lemmer. The hosts then concentrated more on defense before Joker Daferner scored with a goal and Furukawa, who was also substitute, scored on the other side.
