Liberty Media, which holds the majority of F1 and – from 2025 – also of MotoGP, records growth in both profits and audience

Jacopo Moretti

February 27 – 6.58pm – MILAN

The highly anticipated 2026 season of the F1 world championship will begin on Sunday 8 March. But the Circus has already achieved an important milestone: in fact, 3.87 billion in revenues were generated by the F1 group last year, marking a growth of 14% compared to 2024. It is yet another record result for Liberty Media, which has held the majority shares of F1 since 2017 and also completed the acquisition of MotoGP in 2025.

RECORD F1

Starting from four wheels, in the year of its 75th anniversary Formula One recorded an increase in operating profit of 28% on an annual basis, reaching 624 million dollars. In the words of CEO Stefano Domenicali, “we are facing a new record season. Our sport has never been stronger, as demonstrated by the first-level partners with whom we collaborate”. And it is no coincidence that the Formula One Group has recently signed millionaire contracts with top-level companies such as Lego, Disney, Pepsi and Apple.

SPONSORS AND HOSPITALITY

Analyzing the composition of the main revenues of the category, it emerges that television rights represented 31% of revenues, followed by revenues deriving from Grand Prix promoters (26%) and sponsorships, which for the first time since the entry of Liberty Media exceeded 20% (21.7%). It should not be underestimated that a good part of the remaining 20% is linked to complementary services such as hospitality packages, luxury services in which the company that owns F1 has demonstrated its willingness to invest more and more.

THE PUBLIC IS GROWING

The trend in live television ratings is also positive, growing between 21% and 24% in 2025. It is proof of the growing attractiveness of the Formula One product, to which the commercial impact linked to the release of the official film dedicated to the category also contributed. But the global growth is not just television, with overall attendance at the circuits reaching 6.75 million spectators, growing by 4% compared to 2024.

MOTOGP SMILES

MotoGP chapter, the acquisition operation concluded, the top two-wheel series also “debuts” in the balance sheet of Liberty Media. In 2025, the league recorded revenues of $573 million, marking growth of 14% year-on-year, while operating profit increased by as much as 86%, reaching $54 million. The development of hospitality packages in the MotoGP universe is also evident, which have generated greater revenue also favored by the increase in races on the calendar. But encouraging signs also come from TV ratings, which grew by 9%, and above all from the increase in audiences at the circuits, which marked a positive +21% compared to 2024. “MotoGP closed 2025 with record attendance – explained the CEO of the group Carmelo Ezpeleta – and now we are confident in our potential to expand towards new geographical areas”.
