Rúben Amorim left Manchester United at the beginning of January after 63 competitive games with an average points average of 1.43 points. The early dismissal could cost the Red Devils up to 18 million euros in severance payments, the English media report, citing a stock market announcement published by the club. Accordingly, the payment will be recorded in the second half of the season and also includes compensation for the coaching team that Amorim brought with him to Old Trafford from Portugal in November 2024.

The sum listed is the maximum possible amount that the club will pay. This depends on certain factors, such as whether Amorim finds a new job within a certain period of time. The announcement also shows that the Premier League club recently paid Sporting Lisbon 7.2 million euros – this was the outstanding amount of the transfer fee that was rumored to be around 12 million euros. The dismissals of Amorim’s predecessor Erik ten Hag and his employees as well as the former sports director Dan Ashworth cost the Red Devils 16.5 million euros. So the club could end up spending more than €30 million on the separations of two coaches and a senior executive within 18 months.

Amorim’s dismissal will cost the English team a similar price to that of José Mourinho in 2019. The equivalent of 22.2 million euros was due for “The Special One” including the staff. Chelsea made the most expensive severance deal in Premier League history, paying Antonio Conte, who was fired in 2018, more than 30 million euros.

UEFA report: Manchester United with the world’s highest transfer deficit

The latest financial figures also show that United has increased the amount it can withdraw from its revolving credit (a flexible facility with a fixed limit) from £350m to £400m, according to The Times. Of this, 295.7 million pounds have been called up so far, and the club’s total debt amounts to almost 1.3 billion pounds, the equivalent of almost 1.5 billion euros.

Meanwhile, the latest UEFA financial report shows that the Red Devils have suffered the world’s highest loss on the transfer market over the last five seasons. The figures correspond to those of the Transfermarkt database and amount to a loss of 793 million euros for Man United, followed in the ranking by Arsenal (769 million) and Chelsea (738 million).

In terms of sport, Amorim’s time at Old Trafford was characterized by restlessness and mediocre results – ultimately this culminated in the separation after just 14 months. Under interim solution Michael Carrick, the team has been on the rise again since January and won five of the last six league games under the 44-year-old ex-professional. In terms of sport, the club is faced with the task of reintroducing stability and a clear vision – especially with regard to title ambitions and a return to the Champions League.
