The relegation-threatened Bundesliga club will not be able to rely on Samuel Mbangula on Saturday. An injury stops the 22-year-old offensive player.
Werder Bremen has suffered another setback in the relegation battle. The club announced that the penultimate team in the table will have to do without their offensive player Samuel Mbangula in the important basement duel against bottom club 1. FC Heidenheim.
The 22-year-old left training early on Wednesday due to an injury. According to the club, an examination a day later revealed that he had suffered a muscular injury in his thigh.
Werder coach Daniel Thioune was hopeful despite the loss: “Samuel has sporting qualities that we would have liked to draw on for the upcoming challenges. We therefore hope all the more that he will play for us again as quickly as possible.”
Mbangula moved from Juventus Turin to Bremen in the summer. As a record newcomer, he has so far been unable to meet the high expectations. The offensive player got off to a decent start under Thioune’s predecessor Horst Steffen.
After that, he was often substituted on for just a few minutes. In the 1:2 win at St. Pauli he played 90 minutes again.
