Gian van Veen has once again failed to win a Premier League evening. The darts player from Andel reached the final for the third time in four weeks, but lost to the Englishman Stephen Bunting (6-2) in Belfast.
In the first round, Northern Ireland’s Josh Rock, playing in his home country tonight, was no match The Giant. Even though his opponent threw a 9-darter (the perfect leg in darts, ed.), Van Veen won convincingly 6-2.
Van Veen finally beats Price
In the semi-finals, the vice world champion met his opponent: Gerwyn Price. In ten previous mutual meetings, Van Veen only managed to win once and the Welshman also came out on top two weeks ago in Antwerp.
In an exciting match, in which Van Veen twice finished over a hundred, it came down to a decisive leg. Price received a match dart, but missed, after which Van Veen finally beat Price again via double sixteen and booked a place in the final.
In the final, Stephen Bunting was surprisingly the opponent. The Englishman did not win a single match in the first three rounds of the Premier League, but reached the final in Belfast. Things were different for Gian van Veen: he was in his third final, but lost the first two to Michael van Gerwen and Jonny Clayton.
In the final, Van Veen continued to throw steadily, but the Englishman continued his good form of the evening. The Andelnaar came up short and saw TheBullet run out quickly. The score was 6-2 in favor of Bunting.
Van Veen will make his debut this year in the Premier League of Darts, the most prestigious darts competition. Due to his excellent performance, he is currently second with nine points and has surpassed Michael van Gerwen. The Vlijmen darts player returned after illness, but narrowly lost to Gerwyn Price.
