Recommendations of the Editorial team

Songwriter Todd Snider was one of a kind. His death in November at age 59 still weighs on East Nashville, where Snider was the “Pied Piper” of the local scene. But his influence extended far beyond his little slice of Nashville: He was indispensable to the scenes in Portland, Oregon, where he was born, and in Texas, where he once lived. On Friday, March 20, artists including Cody Canada, Amanda Shires and Hayes Carll will gather at Willie Nelson’s Luck Ranch outside of Austin, to celebrate Snider at the all-day concert “Todd Snider Rules!” to honor.

In addition to Canada, Shires and Carll, the lineup features more than 20 artists including Jack Ingram, Drivin N Cryins Kevn Kinney, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Jason Boland, John Craigie, Dalton Domino, Shelby Stone, Ashleigh Flynn, Kat Hasty, Tommy Prine, Levi Snider, Garrett Boys, Emma Ogier, Caleb Martin, Dallas Burrow, Olivia Ellen Lloyd, Briscoe, Travis Roberts, Sterling Finlay and Pedal Steel Noah.

“I wouldn’t be anywhere in music if I hadn’t stumbled upon Todd as a teenager,” Cross Canadian Ragweed frontman Canada said in a statement. “The coolest, the funniest, the quickest. Without him there’s a hole in our family hearts. Thanks for the friendship, buddy.”

Tickets and line-up

Tickets for “Todd Snider Rules!” are available now via the Luck Presents website. Doors open at 2 p.m. CT.

“What the loss of Todd Snider means to the music community and to me personally is hard to surpass,” Tasjan, who co-produced Snider’s last album, “High, Lonesome and Then Some,” said in a statement. “For over 20 years, he was my friend, my mentor, and one of my closest and most trusted companions. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to gather with Todd’s friends and fans to honor him at Luck Ranch this year. I’m sure it will help us all cope with his absence and find our way through all that it brings to us.”

Following Snider’s death, Tasjan, Elizabeth Cook and Chuck Mead – all friends and collaborators of the songwriter – joined the ROLLING STONE podcast Nashville Now to discuss his legacy and share personal stories about Snider. Many of them were humorous, including one that Tasjan recounted about the moment Garth Brooks supposedly wanted to record Snider’s original song “Alright Guy.”

The Garth Brooks anecdote

Snider made a joke out of it and joked that he would use the fee to build a pool. When Brooks called with the bad news that he wouldn’t be recording the song after all, Snider continued playing the number. “He immediately yelled, ‘Stop digging! We can’t build the pool!'” Tasjan said. “He loved bad news.”

“Todd Snider Rules!” will take place the day after the 2026 Luck Reunion at Nelson’s Ranch. The lineup scheduled for March 19th includes Trampled by Turtles, St. Vincent, James McMurtry and regular guest Nelson with his Family Band.
