At least the production of Apetit’s frozen pizzas will not be moved abroad, the company promises.

The future of the Pudasjärvi frozen pizza factory is at stake. Riika Tauriainen

Apetite is planning to close the frozen pizza factory and is considering alternative production locations and models for its frozen pizza production.

We told you earlier that if the production were carried out with alternative arrangements, the operations of the Pudasjärvi frozen pizza factory would be terminated and the factory would be closed.

At the same time, the company starts change negotiations regarding the personnel of the entire Pudasjärvi frozen pizza factory. Currently, 21 people work permanently in the factory.

We now asked Apetit’s director of communications and responsibility From Miika Kemila reasons behind the events. Why don’t you buy frozen pizzas anymore?

Kemilä wanted to answer Iltalehti’s questions by e-mail citing the busy schedule.

– After the investment completed at the Pudasjärvi factory in 2022, Apetit’s frozen pizza product family was relaunched. A lot of effort was put into the reform and it had a good effect, but in the longer term the goals have not been reached. The frozen pizza market is very competitive, Kemilä writes.

According to him, some pizzas have become really popular, but overall the sales of frozen pizzas have not been in line with the goals.

We asked if the mapping of new production sites means that the production of pizzas could be moved abroad. Where will the manufacturing be moved and when?

– This will be clarified in more detail during the change negotiations, but production will be continued in Finland in any case.

According to Kemilä, the situation is not easy for Apetit’s employees.

– Such situations are not easy, especially for the people at the factory. But it is important for us to commit to open negotiations with the staff and to offer support even in difficult situations.
