Friederike Repohl is currently missing from Bayer Leverkusen due to injury. It is unclear whether she will play for her team again. The goalkeeper is hanging up her gloves after the current season.

Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen will lose its captain and goalkeeper Friederike Repohl after the end of the season. The 31-year-old has decided to end her career, as the club announced on Thursday. Repohl was quoted as saying that her decision “came about independently of the current situation” and was “based on several personal considerations.”

Repohl is currently missing from the team due to a partial tear of the medial ligament in her right knee, which she suffered at the beginning of February. U23 national goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe, on loan from Liverpool FC, has represented them between the posts ever since.

Leverkusen’s sporting director Achim Feifel emphasized: “We keep our fingers crossed for Friederike that she can fight her way back onto the pitch, look forward to the remaining months and wish her only the best for the time afterwards.”

Repohl’s contract with the “Werkself” expires in the summer. Since moving from VfL Wolfsburg in 2021, she has appeared in 83 competitive games for Bayer Leverkusen. The Bielefeld native also once played for the DFB’s junior teams – most recently in 2011 for the German U19.
