Martín Demichelis was looking for work for almost a year. He was once supposed to take over as coach of the Bayern professionals, but now he has apparently found another club.
According to several Spanish media, Martín Demichelis will be the new coach at RCD Mallorca. As the “as” and “Marca” report unanimously, the Argentine has signed with the first division club, which is threatened with relegation.
One of the crucial points for signing Demichelis was the fact that the former Bayern II coach was prepared to only accept a contract until the end of the season. Other candidates such as Javi Gracia and Francisco Javier García Pimienta are said to have demanded a contract beyond the end of the season.
Mallorca is currently in 18th place, the first relegation place in Spain, one point behind the saving bank. From the last five games, the team lost four times and only won one.
Due to the short contract, Demichelis will initially only remain on the sidelines for 13 games. According to “Marca”, it is not yet clear whether the Argentine will be in the dugout for the game against Real Sociedad this weekend.
After his playing career, Martín Demichelis first worked as an assistant coach in Malaga and then moved back to Munich. First he coached the youth team, then he took over as second representative of the record champions for almost two years before returning to his homeland.
There he took over River Plate in January 2023 and became Argentine champion. It was over for him in the summer of 2024. At that time, he was briefly considered the new Bayern coach before Vincent Kompany took over and Demichelis moved to Monterrey in Mexico. He stayed there until May 2025. His commitment to Mallorca is his first position as a head coach in European professional football.
