1. FC Nürnberg has extended the contract of the U23 head coach, Andreas Wolf. The club announced this on Thursday. The 43-year-old will enter his fourth season as U23 coach this summer.
Wolf played for Nuremberg for a total of 14 years, made his professional debut in 2002, was promoted to the Bundesliga twice and won the DFB Cup in 2007. In 2009 he moved to SV Werder Bremen before returning to his old place of work in 2014 after retiring. There he held various roles in the youth ranks, including as assistant coach of the U21s and coach of the U19s, before finally taking over the position of head coach of the U23s in 2023.
The 43-year-old has now successfully completed the UEFA Pro License course and is currently at the top of the Bavarian Regional League with his team. Despite heading towards the championship, the club confirmed that it would not take part in the promotion games for the 3rd league. The club cited infrastructural and economic issues as well as the previous training concept as reasons. Wolf himself says of his extension: “I am very happy that I will be working as coach of the U23 beyond the season. I feel very comfortable here, regardless of the league, and can contribute my expertise in a targeted manner.”
