Tennis professional Yannick Hanfmann reached the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Santiago de Chile. The 34-year-old from Karlsruhe beat fourth-seeded Argentinian Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6:4, 6:3 in the round of 16 on Wednesday, confirming his recent improving form.
Hanfmann, who is the only German representative in the main draw in the Chilean capital, showed a stable performance against Carabelli, as he did in the first round win against the Serb Dusan Lajovic. In the first set he broke his opponent with a 5:4 lead and grabbed the passage. In the second set, Carabelli took a medical timeout and then tried everything again.
But Hanfmann, the world number 81, prevailed. Now he has a chance of reaching the semi-finals against Dino Prizmic (Croatia) or Vilius Gaubas (Lithuania).
