Jan Versteegh is not someone who really excels on television, but he is more of a jack of all trades. He does everything he is told, as long as payment is made at the end of the month.
The TV bosses can deploy Jan Versteegh flexibly. The presenter likes to work in television because it pays so well and does not have all kinds of requirements. What would he do if John de Mol suddenly threw him out on the street? “If no one wants me on television tomorrow, I would hate that,” he says in the TROS Compass.
Not above all else
It would be a shame, says Jan. “Because I think this is the best job there is. But it is not above everything else. I think it is much more important that my daughters still think I am a good guest.”
He continues: “In my early years I thought: this work is my dream and if my program doesn’t score, I’m done. Of course it hurts when a program fails. It can really make me sleep poorly for a night, maybe even a week, but after that life goes on.”
Paternity
Fatherhood puts things into perspective enormously, says Jan. “In the end, what matters most is that you are happy with the people around you. I am no longer the same person as I was when I was 25.”
He concludes: “I have become more mature and calmer; I am now just a citizen with a family. And fatherhood puts things into perspective enormously.”
