Supporting himself on a stick, he has difficulty walking outside. Yet he remains cheerful, makes jokes and looks positively at what is still possible.
Life after a cerebral infarction
In 2020, William suffered a cerebral infarction. Since then he has suffered from aphasia and motor problems. Talking is difficult and sometimes he cannot find words and blocks his speech. His well-being coach Wendy van Beeten from Welzijn op Recept helps him with this. “If William cannot get his words out, I will help him,” she says.
Therapy garden
For William, the garden means much more than just a piece of greenery that he can look out on. “For me it means continuing to live, it is my therapy garden,” he says.
A lot of work needs to be done: pruning, removing old tree stumps and taking out two fig trees. He also has a dream: a pallet bench at the back of the garden, where the last sun falls.
The pallets are already there; we are waiting for handy, helpful hands to assemble the sofa. The garden is important to William, Wendy adds. “Super important,” she says. “Being outside, in nature, that just gives energy and meaning to your life, of course.”
Working together
The call via NH helps is not intended to take care of everything. William wants to cooperate as far as possible. Being outside and being busy in nature gives him energy and stability.
