Indiscipline is a thorn in Hansi Flick’s side. Now the FC Barcelona coach has drastically increased the fines for his players.
Hansi Flick is known for placing great emphasis on discipline. Now the FC Barcelona coach has taken strict measures to avoid tardiness among his stars as much as possible.
As Barcelona professionals Ferran Torres and Pedri revealed, the former national coach adjusted the team’s internal catalog of penalties and drastically increased the amounts. This particularly applies to late arrivals on match days. The German no longer punishes this by being removed from the squad, but rather with a hefty fine, reports Pedri.
“We don’t even need to start with 3,000 euros,” said Torres on the TV show “El Hormiguero” when asked by presenter Pablo Motos. He wanted to know more and asked further: “10,000? 15,000? 17,000? 18,000? 19,000? 30,000? 40,000?” When Motos said the last number, Pedri replied: “There it is.”
However, Torres, European champion in 2026, restricted: “We will not give the exact number.” Nevertheless, he understands Flick’s measures: “If you arrive late on match day, you won’t be focused and won’t think about the game.” And that’s exactly what the ex-Bayern coach wants to avoid with appropriate sanctions on his professionals.
The measure is possibly also a reaction to the two defeats that Barça suffered recently. In the semi-final first leg of the cup they suffered a heavy 0-4 defeat at Atlético Madrid. This was followed by an unexpected 1-2 league defeat at FC Girona. After all: At the weekend they took back the lead from arch-rivals Real Madrid with a 3-0 win against UD Levante.
