Geraldine Kemper finally confirms that she no longer has an exclusive contract with RTL. She had a five-year agreement, but the channel decided not to renew it in 2024. “To compress.”

Geraldine Kemper switched from BnnVara to RTL 4 in 2019 and it was all announced in a grand way, as if she were the channel’s next big talent. But the corona crisis threw a spanner in the works and we only saw her on television after sixteen (!) months, with a failed program: Geraldine and the Women.

Laughter perishes

Two years later, Geraldine was still screeching about the sky-high salary she received from RTL, but she soon stopped laughing. She has hardly done anything for the channel: in addition to that failed program, she appeared a few times in Five Days Inside, she was a reporter for The Voice and she did Big Brother and the online version of Expedition Robinson.

That is a very meager harvest for five years of RTL. And suddenly she left on a long world trip in 2024. Both parties did not want to confirm her departure from the channel at the time, but that is now happening.

Geraldine confirms

Geraldine can no longer avoid it. “I got a five-year contract and I have made wonderful programs, but my contract has not been extended in 2024. That’s a shame, I’m not going to lie about that. And it also makes me insecure, because being associated with a channel is nice and safe.”

She continues: “It’s as if I’ve had two great long relationships: ten years with BNN and five years with RTL and now I’m a freelancer, so single. I still have to get used to that, but I think I’m happily single.”

Knock

Why is Geraldine happy now? “The television world has changed enormously for a maker in recent years. There is more choice, also in the way you can earn your money. Come up with something yourself, turn to a broadcaster or streaming service.”

She continues: “I still have to figure it all out. But my expiring contract was a good time to fulfill another dream: a world trip, together with my boyfriend.”

World trip

She did interrupt that world trip to participate in Wie is de Mol. “When I got the call, there was a moment of panic, because the shooting period coincided with our world trip and our house was rented out for the entire period.”

“So we adjusted our route so that Tanzania fit in. I do something like that for a program like WIDM?, there is so much magic around it…”
