A 60-year-old man from Tilburg is not allowed to keep animals on his property along the A58 for the next ten years. The court in Breda decided this on Monday. In August, forty neglected animals were seized from the man by the National Animal Welfare Inspectorate (LID). He will be allowed to have one dog as a pet in the coming years.
The man was also given a suspended prison sentence of one month, suspended for two years. This means that he will go to jail if he commits another crime within two years.
Warned several times
In the past, various measures were taken, ranging from warnings and reports to the confiscation of animals. Yet the man managed to purchase new animals again and again, causing supervisors to be confronted with the same problems again and again.
During a visit by the inspectorate in August, nine pigs, two pot-bellied pigs, a llama, three donkeys, seven horses and eighteen dogs were found in a piece of no man’s land along the A58.
According to the police, the dogs were covered in fleas, did not receive enough food and water and were clearly in poor health. There was even a dead rat in a water bowl. In addition, the field was littered with all kinds of materials, such as steel pipes, fencing and barbed wire. Stuff that could hurt the animals.
Animals do not return
All animals were seized after an assessment by a veterinarian and the public prosecutor and transferred to a safe shelter location the same day. To get the care they needed there. The boss indicated at the time that he was very sad.
The court decided on Monday that the man will not get his animals back. It is not clear what exactly happens to the animals.
