RTV Drenthe and RTV Noord will jointly receive 1.3 million euros per year from Nij Begun in the coming years. The money is intended for three new projects, which the broadcasters produce together. One of these should stimulate the regional language in North Drenthe and Groningen.

Nij Begun is the program of the government and the region that should make Groningen and North Drenthe, the areas affected by the earthquake problem, stronger. RTV Drenthe and RTV Noord want to contribute to this with these new projects.

Marc Visch, editor-in-chief of RTV Drenthe, is enthusiastic about the confidence in the broadcasters. “It is fantastic that Nij Begun recognizes that we as a regional broadcaster play an important role in making North Drenthe stronger. Now it is up to us to fulfill that responsibility with good programs.”

One of those programs is Hey Doean educational children’s program about regional language. Of Hey Doe RTV Drenthe and RTV Noord will bring regional language into the classroom, with the aim of introducing children to Drenthe at an early age.

“Regional language lives among the people,” says Visch. “The people of Drenthe are rightly proud of Drenthe. With this program we hope to encourage it at a young age.”

Another plan is the project Closewhich focuses on events in the province. This concerns ten smaller and three major events, which the broadcasters report on.

There can be connections with events that are already being organised, but RTV Drenthe and RTV Noord can also organize events themselves. “Of Close We would like to strengthen solidarity in the area,” says Visch.

The third project is Healthy Northernersa multi-year media platform in which RTV Drenthe and RTV Noord make annual productions about health, vitality and mental resilience. The program is in line with the major health differences in the Northern Netherlands.

“There is still a lot to be gained in the field of health,” Visch emphasizes. “Certainly also in the field of mental resilience. We would like to pay attention to that.”

All in all, Visch is satisfied with the amount of money and the collaboration with RTV Noord. “With this money we can create great programs about things that really matter,” he concludes.

The content and content of the projects are determined by the broadcasters themselves. The contribution from Nij Begun has no influence on the editorial independence of RTV Drenthe and RTV Noord.
