“A unique experience, a big party and an honor that I was able to host all those days of the Winter Games in Milan in the TeamNL House,” says Snollebollekes Rob Kemps on Monday in the Omroep Brabant radio program KEIgoeiemorgen! The adrenaline of the past few days is still reflected in his enthusiasm.
“I also need to recover. It was incredibly beautiful and honorable to do, but it also means giving everything you have for 17 days,” says the singer from Best. “It’s great to see that the atmosphere in the TeamNL House is getting even better every day than the day before. It also became busier every day. More and more people wanted to be there.”
“Who knows, that energetic atmosphere may have also contributed to the top performance that the Netherlands delivered during these Winter Olympics,” muses the ‘from left to right’ artist.
Of course, the singer could not avoid performing his own biggest hit during the ceremonies. “But I also tried to make it my own party for the athletes. I liked talking to them beforehand, to get to know each other. One has to perform again a few days later and for the other the Games are over. That brings a different energy.”
The singer previously hosted the Summer Games in Paris. “The biggest difference is that during the winter games it is mainly individual athletes and in the summer there are more teams, such as hockey players. It is more relaxing for a team to be on the podium together. Those individual athletes were sometimes a bit nervous about being honored because then all the attention is focused on him or her. I have tried to make it as relaxed as possible for them too.”
In Milan, Kemps learned a lot from the carnival in Brabant, which passed him by this time. “I saw a lot of photos and videos through social media. If I had been in Best, it would have given me the itch to want to be there. Now I was in a completely different atmosphere from a distance, which made me miss it less. The unique experience I had there was simply unforgettable or, to stay in the atmosphere: gold!”
