Oskari Katajisto, 60, used to be one of Finland’s most famous actors until he disappeared from the public eye. Everything has changed, and Katajisto, who has recovered from a painful illness, wouldn’t trade his current life for anything.

Oskari Katajisto will join the sixties club on Saturday, but he doesn’t feel like it.

– It’s like a young stallion, he says on the phone.

– It’s a bit surprising that suddenly it’s sixty on the meter, but you don’t feel like you’re that age.

With the rounds, however, there is a place for a small interim financial statement. If you ask Katajisto, everything is better now than before.

The former All-Nation actor works an eight-to-four job as an account manager for a company that organizes various statutory security trainings. He has been at the same company for five years, and Katajisto also likes to read audio books.

– Life is nice. I have time to enjoy it. It wasn’t before. I always worked evenings and weekends. This work is also financially much more profitable than the work of an actor, he reveals.

Katajisto says that he was cured of gout, which had been bothering him for a long time, already three years ago.

– I have to thank the doctor who took my gout seriously and made a six-month treatment program where I popped the hell out of cortisone. It started with high doses, which were then reduced and finally stopped completely. I was anxious to see if the pain would come back – it didn’t!

He still has to take preventive medication for the disease, which keeps the gout completely gone. The man hints that he is planning a big life change, but he refuses to say a word about it.

– The kilos still need to be lost, it’s a forever project! Someday I would like to experience the pleasure of being able to run properly around Töölönlahti.

A dark place

According to him, Kotikulm in Jätkäsaari does not have great jogging scenery. Still, even after five years, he doesn’t go anywhere else.

– The services are quite non-existent, and brick-and-mortar stores will only be beauty salons or yoga studios. There will be no shops, he is surprised, and says that he is doing business a kilometer away in a big shop in Ruoholahti.

On the other hand, right in the neighborhood in Jätkäsaari, there is a parking garage that has received dark attention when several people have fallen to their deaths from its roof.

It is a place that Katajisto does not like to pass by on his dog runs.

– That place is very close to us. I have noticed situations when emergency vehicles have accumulated on the scene. Even after the first time, it was clear what was going on there, he says.

– Quite a spooky thing. Many families with children still live nearby, and now it has become a slum.

The great unknown

The limitations of life are on the former actor’s mind every once in a while. Oskari Katajisto says that he does not see death as a sad thing. According to him, everyone arrives at Tellus in turn and leaves from there towards infinity when the time is right.

– Everything will be destroyed one way or another. The earth is not eternal either, he philosophizes.

The answer to the question of life and death can be found in the Italian ice hockey coach From Jukka Jalosewho is at the noble age of a 63-year-old man.

– When Jalose was asked if he plans to continue as a coach after coaching the Italian national team, he replied that there is not much of this life left here now – and that’s exactly how it is!

Katajisto is passionate about the raw truth.

– In public, we have been claimed to be double beings, and people have confused me with Jalose many times. If things have gone badly in the puddle, I’ve been barked at. I’ve said that I’m sorry, but I’m not Jukka. I’ve been told not to try to escape responsibility.

Another life

Sixty-year-old Oskari Katajisto is happy that life forced him to turn the other side of the coin after publicity and fame.

– Friends with four paws are running around the corners, what’s nicer than that, he laughs.

Katajisto and his spouse Sanna Vaahti the dogs had to be put down a couple of years ago, and they now have one of their own. In addition, the couple keeps nursing dogs at home.

He praises his relationship after being engaged as the longest relationship of his life.

– And the great thing about it is that when my teenager is 16 years younger, it also keeps me going! Kind of like Mattiesko HytönenThe juniper is rustling.

He says the couple tunes in every summer in Crete, the promised island of their love.

Debt free soon

Katajisto has also managed to pull itself up from the bottom of the financial ditch. At worst, he had a huge withdrawal, which was extremely distressing.

– It’s almost taken care of, he rejoices.

– It’s been years since I’ve had an absurd slice of my monthly salary foreclosure. It sucks, but I’m used to it. Many people could just throw that as a joke and start living on government support, but my soul didn’t give in to it.

Katajisto thanks his spouse Sanna, who encouraged him to find a completely new profession and to be patient.

– So I have been, and now things are very good.

He estimates that in a few years, if things go well, the debts will be former debts.

– But the long, long sky is over. Let this be an example to others who are in this situation or are afraid of getting into foreclosure, that you can get out of there if you just work and humble yourself.

He has been delighted to read the introductions of his fellow actors. Due to the difficult situation in the cultural sector, many have changed fields and started doing “ordinary jobs”.

– The actors are terribly proud of their own identity as artists. It was damn good to read that he humbled himself and went to other jobs. You shouldn’t give in to the circumstances, you have to go to the store’s cash register or go to the grocery store, he encourages.

Katajisto says that he ate his own pride when he quit acting.

But strange thing, the painful desire to show off and the feeling of inadequacy also ended at the same time.
