Sepp Piontek, one of the former coaches of the National Football Team, passed away at the age of 85.
According to reports in the European press, it was confirmed by his family that the German coach, who also coached the National Football Team between 1990 and 1993, passed away due to his illness.
Piontek also coached Bursaspor in 1993.

Sepp Piontek, one of the former coaches of our National Team and Bursaspor, passed away at the age of 85. The German coach, who served as the head coach of Türkiye for three years between 1990 and 1993, made great efforts in taking the first steps towards the rise of the Crescent-Stars on the international football scene.
Piontek, who played for his country’s Germania Leer and Werder Bremen teams during his professional football career between 1958 and 1972, won the Federation Cup in 1961 and the Bundesliga championship in 1965 with the Bremen team. Piontek represented the West Germany National Team in 6 matches.
Piontek, who started his coaching career at Werder Bremen, where he played for many years, later played for Fortuna Düsseldorf, Haiti and St. Petersburg. He coached Pauli; He became the head of Denmark in 1979. During his 11-year tenure, he led Denmark to the World Cup for the first time in its history in 1986. Denmark reached the semi-finals of the 1984 European Championship, in which it participated under the management of Piontek, and bid farewell to the 1988 European Championship in the group stage. Sepp Piontek, on the other hand, was remembered as the first implementer of the 3-5-2 tactic in Europe during his tenure in Denmark.
Piontek, who left Denmark in 1990 and became the head of the Turkish National Team, managed our team in 27 matches. In these matches, the Crescent-Stars team had 4 wins, 8 draws and 15 defeats. After working for Bursaspor between 1993-95, Piontek also played for Danish teams Aalborg and Silkeborg; At the end of his career, he managed the Greenland National Team.
