In line with its commitment to environmental protection, Longchamp has announced a partnership with Neoline – the pioneer in wind-powered maritime transport. As one of Neoline’s first freight customers, Longchamp is taking a further step towards more environmentally friendly logistics and is further expanding its strategy for sustainable development.
A new era for transatlantic freight transport
Since October 2025, a significant portion of transatlantic freight traffic has been handled by the Neoliner Origin – the first RoRo sailing cargo ship developed by Neoline. The 136 meter long innovative ship is equipped with two solid sails of 1,050 square meters each and two headsails of 450 square meters each. This state-of-the-art technology allows greenhouse gas emissions to be reduced by five times compared to a conventional ship of the same size, while ensuring transport capacity in line with international standards. Adrien Cassegrain, Transformations & CSR Director at Longchamp, comments: “The partnership with Neoline represents an important step for the house, allowing the use of a shipping method that is more environmentally friendly and in line with sustainability commitments.”
Full speed ahead towards low-CO₂ shipping
Since 2021, Longchamp has been working with Neoline to make maritime logistics more sustainable. A quarter of the container traffic between France and the USA is expected to be handled by this wind-powered cargo ship – a share that will gradually increase to 50% with the introduction of a second ship.
Neoliner Origin – an environmentally friendly innovation
The Neoliner Origin uses primarily wind power, supported by an auxiliary diesel-electric drive, and uses up to five times less energy than a conventional cargo ship. The maiden voyage connected Saint-Nazaire in France – near Longchamp’s workshops in Segré – with Baltimore in the USA, not far from the company’s US warehouse. En route, the ship made scheduled stops in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and Halifax in Canada – a strategic zone with high trade demand. Jean Zanuttini, Chairman of Neoline, explains: “Wind is an inexhaustible, renewable energy source. With our low energy consumption and clean propulsion methods, we offer a credible and efficient alternative to traditional models.”
Longchamp – Commitment to sustainability
Longchamp’s climate strategy, launched in 2024, aims to reduce the CO₂ footprint by 30% by 2033, in particular by reducing the use of fossil fuels and their derivatives; in the freight sector, the goal is a reduction of 60% by 2033. Against this background, the house has entered into a partnership with Neoline and is thus initiating a maritime revolution. By choosing Neoline, Longchamp is relying on a wind-powered shipping solution that is more sustainable than traditional logistics routes. This choice strengthens the company’s CSR strategy, which combines sustainability, performance and innovation. Jérémie Nountchongoué, Longchamp’s transport and import-export manager, comments: “This initiative represents a real opportunity to reduce our carbon footprint and support regionalization. It represents both a logistical choice and a clear commitment to sustainable innovation.”
