In 2025, numerous electric car manufacturers came under pressure from falling demand – but one model stood out due to particularly sharp declines.
• Tesla’s Cybertruck saw a significant decline in sales in 2025
• Declines in deliveries also across Tesla’s entire model range
• Other manufacturers also reported declining sales of their electric cars
A look at the US sales figures shows: 2025 was a challenging year for many electric car manufacturers. While some models remained relatively stable, others suffered significant declines in sales. As InsideEVs reports, citing data from Cox Automotive, more than two dozen electric vehicle models saw year-over-year sales declines last year. The decline in demand for electric cars in the USA in 2025 can be attributed, among other things, to the loss of central subsidies, including a $7,500 tax bonus, which had previously motivated many buyers.
Kia and Ford at a glance: sales figures for electric cars in the USA are weakening
For example, the South Korean car manufacturer Kia 2025 had to accept significant setbacks in the electric car segment in the USA. According to “Inside EVs”, sales of its EV6 model fell from 21,715 vehicles in 2024 to just 12,933 units in the following year – a decline of almost 40 percent. The EV9 also showed a similar development: Sales fell from 22,017 to 15,051 vehicles, which corresponds to a decrease of around 32 percent.
There were clear differences in Ford’s electric vehicles in the USA in 2025: The E-Transit fell from 12,610 sales in 2024 to just 5,186 units in 2025 – a decline of almost 59 percent. The Mustang Mach-E is different, whose sales figures remained almost unchanged at 51,620 sales.
Sales of Tesla’s Cybertruck are plummeting
According to “InsideEVs”, Tesla’s Cybertruck suffered the most in 2025. The one from Elon Musk However, the electric car manufacturer does not publish its sales figures broken down by individual model, which is why they have to be estimated: According to the news site, Cox Automotive assumes that Tesla will have sold around 39,000 Cybertrucks in 2024. According to market researchers, only around 20,200 units will have been sold in 2025. That would correspond to a drop of around 48 percent in Cybertruck sales – a decline that stands out compared to that of other electric car manufacturers.
Despite a much larger percentage drop in the Ford E-Transit of almost 59 percent, Tesla was hit hardest in 2025 in terms of unit sales: Tesla sold around 19,000 fewer Cybertrucks in 2025 than in the previous year – in absolute numbers, this is the largest decline among electric cars in the USA.
According to “InsideEVS”, several factors have weighed on the Cybertruck since its presentation in 2019, including the provocative design and, in particular, the political positioning of Tesla boss Elon Musk, which deterred numerous potential buyers from the Tesla brand.
Decline affects Tesla’s entire model range
The increasingly dubious reputation of Tesla boss Elon Musk is also consistent with the fact that not only was the Cybertruck struggling with falling demand, but delivery figures for other Tesla models were also declining.
The number of Model 3 and Model Y vehicles delivered also fell sharply year-on-year, as official data from Tesla shows: Of the 1,704,093 vehicles of these model series delivered worldwide in 2024, the number fell to 1,585,279 units in 2025 – a decline of around 7 percent.
While Tesla delivered a total of 1,789,226 vehicles worldwide in 2024, the number of total sales fell by almost 8.6 percent to 1,636,129 units in 2025.
However, according to “InsideEVs”, Cox Automotive assumes that Tesla will still have sold the most electric cars in the USA in 2025, with an estimated total of 590,000 vehicles sold there, which means that the company will have achieved a market share of 46 percent in the electric segment in the USA.
