Dtwo hundred million dollars: this would be the amount pocketed by Britney Spears for the sale of the rights to his most famous songs to Primary Wavean American music publishing giant. According to the site TMZthe singer would not have kept anything for herself, giving up her entire musical repertoire.

Britney Spears sold the rights to her music for $200 million

The operation would have been finalized last December 30th and the well-informed have defined it “a historic agreement”. This is thanks to the figure, which for the moment is only indicative, as the precise details of the agreement reached between the two parties are not known.

In the “package” there are songs that have become very famous, from Baby One More Time to Gimme Morefrom Oops!… I Did It Again to Piece of Me. Spears follows in the footsteps of other artists who have sold their music catalogs in recent years, such as Justin Bieber, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Shakira, KISS, Sting, Phil Collins, Stevie Nicks and Bruce Springsteen. The latter, for example, had pocketed 500 million dollars in 2021, selling everything to Sony. No official comment has arrived, at least so far, from Britney Spears nor from Primary Wave.

The assignment of rights in practice

In practical terms, especially for fans, nothing will change: the singer’s music will always be available, and we could even witness a commercial rebirth, thanks to remixes, use in marketing operations or film productions. The singer, for her part, will be freer because she will no longer have to manage her musical heritage in terms of rights and, obviously, then there is the economic question.
