Ronald Molendijk believes that vlog parents Daniel and Fara Bellinga should be removed from parental authority because, according to him, they commercially exploit their children. “And quickly too!”
Daniel and Fara Bellinga have been making family vlogs for many years, but they are currently under fire more than ever. They are on a long world trip with their children and have visited a slum in South Africa. The way they talk about the locals there sounds more like they are walking around in a zoo. “They’re not shy at all!”
‘F*cking embarrassing’
It has to be over at some point, says Ronald Molendijk. “We’ve been looking at child labor for ten years now. That’s what’s going on here and it’s going to continue,” he says. Show news. “They also ignore all applicable laws and regulations.”
He continues: “I’ve said it here many times: it is completely f*cking embarrassing that this is happening and it just keeps happening. These people simply need to be removed from parental authority and very quickly.”
Zoo
Colleague Eline de Ruig finds those people completely inappropriate. “They almost act as if the people are animals in a zoo. It is a tourist attraction for them. It is too disgusting to look at and everyone online is really complaining about it. The reactions are not kind.”
The African children are simply depicted in a recognizable way by the Bellingas. Ronald: “To be clear: we blur those children because we do have a sense of norms. If you are ever in South Africa with those children… Go and have a look at Robben Island.”
Street names
According to Ronald, the Bellingas could use some historical awareness. “Just go and have a look. And also what the streets are called in that city, like: why are all the Dutch street signs hung here? Maybe that is also a good lesson to discuss with your children. If I had a bucket…”
Eline: “It makes your stomach turn. Maybe there are two things mixed up. The fact that this vlogging family even exists that puts their children to work with three vlogs a week just to generate income… That goes a long way. But things like this… I can’t get my head around it.”
Boycott
According to Ronald, it is time for a boycott. “These people also make feature films and they also come to Pathé. If you work there and you have one ounce of decency in your thunder, you just stop doing it. That is a real source of income.”
He concludes: “This is just completely insane.”
