Metal legend Dave Mustaine didn’t know Yungblud, but gave him crucial career advice. What the Megadeth frontman recommends to the Grammy winner.
In an interview, Megadeth legend Dave Mustaine took on a mentorship role towards the up-and-coming Yungblud – who he had never heard of before the conversation.
Advice to a stranger
In an interview with “NME”, the 64-year-old was asked by a journalist whether he was familiar with the Brit’s publications. Mustaine answered bluntly and curtly, “No.” The metal veteran then explained that Ozzy Osbourne was a big fan of Yungblud before his death and that the artist has worked with the likes of Aerosmith and the Smashing Pumpkins in recent months while being touted as the savior of rock music.
After receiving a crash course in Yungblud, Mustaine had words of wisdom for the 28-year-old: “When you say someone works with everyone, to me that means they’ve reached a point where they either need to take a break or find something else [um sich von der Masse abzuheben]”. As a reason for his assessment, the artist added: “Because you run the risk of your own song sounding like the last song [mit dem man zusammengearbeitet hat]which in turn sounds like the song of the person before it.”
Mustaine refuses to collaborate with other artists
To the obvious rhetorical question as to whether there would be no collaboration between him and Yungblud in the near future, he responded with a counter question and an answer that was surprising at first: “Do I know any young bands or artists that I would like to work with? If I were to work with someone now, I would continue to work with Megadeth.”
This answer is no coincidence, as Mustaine recently decided to give up Megadeth in consultation with his three colleagues due to his severe arthritis, which makes it almost impossible for him to play the guitar. Their new and final album, which has their band name as the title, was released in January 2026, with which they will go on a worldwide farewell tour from mid-February this year until late summer.

The thrash metallers will bring their music one last time to Canada, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, France, Turkey, Finland, Kazakhstan and the USA for a total of 56 planned concerts. According to a look at the packed tour calendar, the dates in Germany will take place on June 2nd, 2026 in Hanover and on June 7th in Gelsenkirchen.
Yungblud, on the other hand, seems to be spot on with his musical flair at the moment. Last February 1, at the 68th ceremony of the most important music award, he received his first Grammy in the Best Rock Performance category for his cover “Changes” during Black Sabbath’s farewell concert in early July 2025.
The rocker also has tour plans for 2026: his upcoming North American tour sold out within a minute. Whether Dominic Richard, Yungblud’s real name, will take the experienced musician’s advice to heart remains to be seen over the course of his career.
