Her serious injury doesn’t seem to set Lindsey Vonn back. The ski queen continues to give everything for her Olympic dream.
Lindsey Vonn won’t let it get her down. Despite her serious injury, the 41-year-old prepared intensively for the Olympic downhill race on Thursday. This will take place on Sunday at 11.30 a.m. at the Tofane Alpine Skiing Center in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Video recordings that Vonn published on her Instagram channel show the American during a session in a training hall. Vonn wears a splint on her left leg. But that doesn’t stop them from doing squats, among other things. She even lifts a barbell.
Additional clips show Vonn completing numerous other exercises. Among other things, she hits a Pezzi ball with her heels at top speed while lying on her stomach.
On the videos, Vonn wrote: “I’m not giving up. I’m working as hard as I can to make it happen.” She thanked her team and everyone else for their great support. “Keep believing,” said Vonn, captioning the post with two emojis – praying hands and a red heart.
Numerous sports greats commented on Vonn’s performance under the post. German tennis player Sabine Lisicki wrote: “Let’s go.” There was an encouraging “You can do it” from the American track and field athlete Allyson Felix. Rugby player Ilona Maher, bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Summer Games, simply commented: “Legend.”
A few days ago, Vonn fell heavily during the World Cup downhill in Crans-Motana and landed in the safety fence. The 2010 Olympic champion was subsequently able to ski down the slope alone. Ultimately, she still had to be flown to a clinic by helicopter.
On Tuesday, Vonn announced the shock diagnosis at a press event in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The top athlete said she tore her cruciate ligament. To everyone’s surprise, she didn’t want to know anything about leaving the Olympics. “I know my chances aren’t as good as they were before,” Vonn said. “But as long as there’s a chance, I’ll try.”
