The application phase for the Summit Scholarship 2026 is closed. With a total of 2,150 applications received, the program supported by LOWA is generating great interest worldwide: 1,600 women from 82 countries applied for one of the twelve scholarship places that give them access to guided mountain sports, climbing and trekking experiences. The announcement of the scholarship recipients is planned around International Women’s Day at the beginning of March.
Sunny Stroeer, extreme athlete and founder of the Summit Scholarship Foundation, is pleased with the response: “The large number and quality of applications shows how great the desire of many women is to follow their own path in alpinism. At the same time, it confirms our approach to making it easier for women to access mountain sports – because financial and social hurdles still exist. With the Summit Scholarship we would like to provide the necessary know-how, equipment and financial support.”
The twelve scholarship holders will be selected in seven categories at the end of February 2026. Special offers are aimed at aspiring adventure photographers, for example. The LOWA Matterhorn Adventure in Switzerland is considered a flagship project, for which 350 outdoor athletes from 43 countries applied: two of them received training, equipment and the chance to climb the Matterhorn with alpinist and LOWA PRO athlete Ines Papert. Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and Alix von Melle support you as mentors throughout the entire program.
