The major French bank BNP Paribas ended 2025 with a surprisingly good quarter.

Bank boss Jean-Laurent Bonnafe has now raised his goals for the coming years. The return on material equity is expected to rise to more than 13 percent by 2028, as the financial institution announced when presenting its annual figures on Thursday in Paris. So far, Bonnafe had targeted around 13 percent. Now he is once again putting the red pencil on operating costs and wants to save a further 600 million euros in the current year.

In the final quarter of last year, BNP Paribas earned almost 3 billion euros, 28 percent more than a year earlier. For the year as a whole, profits rose by almost five percent to 12.2 billion euros. The return on tangible equity reached 11.6 percent.

The shareholders are to receive a final dividend of 2.57 euros per share. Including the interim dividend already paid, the annual dividend increases by almost eight percent to 5.16 euros.

In EURONEXT trading in Paris, the BNP Paribas share temporarily rose 3.62 percent to 94.22 euros.
