Don’t let yourself be fooled by the puppets: the one debuting today is a pure entertainment experiment which aims to repeat the success of that program which in 1978 Time called “the most popular on Earth”.
The Muppet Show on Disney+: the “Sabrina Carpenter factor”
If there’s a reason why this special will end up in the feeds of millions of very young people, that reason has a name: Sabrina Carpenter. The pop star of the moment, fresh from global successes, is the honorable guest star. His participation is not just a cameo, but a passing of the baton: if in the 70s Elton John and Johnny Cash took to the stage of the Muppet Theater, today It’s up to her to manage the chaos unleashed by Kermit, Miss Piggy and Fozzie.
A bridge between generations (with the influence of Seth Rogen)
Behind the scenes there is an unexpected mind: Seth Rogen. The actor and producer, known for a decidedly more “adult” type of comedy, handled the special as executive producer, ensuring that the anarchic and slightly crazy spirit of the Muppets remained intact.
