Entrepreneurs hear the cash register ringing less than they would like these days. Many people stayed at home because of the slippery roads.
When the baker and fishmonger started up in Rolde early this morning, they could not have fully anticipated that the customer base would be so disappointing. The extreme slippery conditions, for which a code red was declared, threw a spanner in the works. “The customers are very careful and I can imagine that,” says baker Ko Pots.
The day started with a slide in front of his bakery. “Someone came to deliver a shipment of goods by truck this morning, but it slid right off the cobbled road.” Pots therefore did not expect that there would be much traffic in the morning hours. “It was very difficult to get here this morning. Fortunately, we live close by, so the start-up has been done. But customers are very careful.”
Fishmonger Gabriël took longer to arrive in Rolde this morning. “I came here from IJsselmuiden. We drove on the highway at perhaps a speed of fifty kilometers per hour.” Once he arrived in Rolde, he quickly concluded that it would be a quiet morning. “There is no one to be seen here, no people on the streets.”
