US and Russia will not sign a new nuclear weapons treaty. Professor Tom Sauer: “It will not make the world safer”

Starting tomorrow, the United States and Russia will be allowed to produce as many strategic nuclear weapons as they want. The New START treaty that both countries signed in 2010 restricted that production, but that agreement expires on Thursday, February 5. Professor of International Politics Tom Sauer, from the University of Antwerp, explains what that means. “The chance that the arms race will accelerate has increased.”
