A woman was persistently and persistently stalked for years by a 48-year-old man from Assen. The judge sentenced the man to one and a half years in prison and TBS with conditions. The sentence is equal to the demand of the Public Prosecution Service (OM).
“Nothing helped to stop him,” the judge said of the persistent stalking. The woman was closely followed by the man for almost three years. He visited her at her home, at her work. Twice he placed a GPS tracker under her car. He was able to track her via his phone.
He threatened to kill her, but at other times he sent her a cake or covered her car with streamers. The man was arrested in August 2024. But was sent home again on conditions.
One of the conditions was that he not make contact with the woman or come near her. He did that anyway.
At the end of October 2024, the man from Assen was arrested again. A psychological examination shows that the man suffers from a medical disorder. Returning untreated is dangerous for society, the judge also believes. This is also possible within the milder TBS measure without compulsory nursing. The man is less accountable.
The man has not shown any respect for the woman’s privacy, the judge said. And believes that the man should continue to receive long-term treatment, as long as it is deemed necessary. He will not be allowed to make any contact in any way for the next five years, even if he appeals.
Compensation of 10,000 euros has been awarded to the woman.
