Everything is official. Peter Bosz signed a new contract until 2028 on Tuesday. And everyone is happy with that, but Bosz had to deal with an angry mother. “I hadn’t told her yet,” the trainer said at the press conference on Tuesday.

Bosz does not have much time to celebrate his new contract. On Wednesday, PSV will play against SC Heerenveen in the quarter-finals of the KNVB Cup. But the trainer is very happy that he has now got rid of that one question: do you have any news about your contract? He was asked that question for months and now he no longer has to, to his own relief. “I see the press four times a week. So I’m glad I don’t have to answer that question anymore.”

He did not want to discuss the details of his new contract on Tuesday: “It concerns my contract, if you want to know something about it, you are not entitled to it. I find it annoying that it is about that at all.”

But of course he is very satisfied with the extension of his stay in Eindhoven: “Everyone is happy: family and people within the club.” Only for mother Bosz the news came out of the blue. “She was a bit angry because I hadn’t told her yet,” says Bosz. “There are some people who find it difficult to keep their mouths shut,” he adds with a smile.

PSV is now leading the competition with 17 points. The Eindhoven team can break several records, but according to the trainer they are not concerned with that at all: “We can only perform like this if we have the right focus at the right time. I find stories about records annoying and derogatory towards opponents.”

The next opponent is sc Heerenveen. The Frisians will visit the Philips Stadium on Wednesday evening. Bosz has never won the cup as a coach, but he is not concerned with that either. “I don’t look at that. I just want to win the tournament. We have to go for it.” Yet the 62-year-old coach is wary: “I think Heerenveen has a very fresh team, with many skilled players. They are similar to us in that.”

Tuesday is the last day that the transfer market is open in the Netherlands. According to the trainer, we shouldn’t expect much from PSV: “I expect to be home in time for dinner,” he says. Ricardo Pepi was still scheduled to leave, but the Eindhoven team rejected a mega bid from Fulham. This was followed by a conversation between the trainer and the injured attacker: “He looks like an American. He accepts it as it is and will now focus on getting fit, scoring goals and the World Cup.”
