Athletics star Narve Nordås contracted chicken pox at the age of 27, Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation NRK news.
Nordås became ill on New Year’s Eve. The next day he was completely broken.
The middle-distance runner could barely walk from the couch to the kitchen without passing out. He had a really high fever.
Then red spots started to appear on the body.
– As an adult, chicken pox strikes much worse. It’s not just a horror story – I don’t remember ever being in so much pain, says Nordås.
The Norwegian had to spend a whole week in bed. He estimates that he lost six weeks of training during that time.
– It felt like I had to learn to walk again. It was absolutely terrible at first.
– Often, if you’ve been sick, you almost have to stop yourself from running right after. But now there was no need to bother with it. Running was the last thing on my mind, says Nordås.
Nordås is the 1,500m World Cup bronze medalist from Budapest 2023.
