NYCFC wanted to renegotiate

FC Schalke 04 apparently won’t collect 7 million euros in this transfer window, including bonuses for striker Moussa Sylla. After there were reports during Monday that the 26-year-old’s move to New York City FC was shaky, he indicated on Instagram that he would be returning to the area from the USA. “Schalke fans you are crazy. I’m coming home,” Sylla wrote, adding a blue and white heart.

“Sky” then said that the change was off the table. This has not yet been finally confirmed by the club or the player, even if it seems obvious from the statement. According to media reports, the NYCFC wanted to renegotiate again after the medical check, during which there were said to be small abnormalities, and possibly plan a loan until the summer. The fronts had therefore been hardened since Sunday evening. Without this being completed, Schalke had no opportunity to bring in a new striker before the transfer deadline.
The original sum offered was well above the transfer fee traded last summer and above Sylla’s market value, which was devalued from 6 million to 5 million euros in October. Schalke managing director Frank Baumann confirmed at the weekend that a higher sum would be paid than would have been possible in the summer.
At Schalke 04 it was already clear last summer that Sylla could not be retained if there was a good offer. The center forward scored 16 goals last season, but after that the big offers didn’t materialize. This season, efficiency has dropped slightly with four goals and two assists in 19 appearances, but there is now a chance for the much-needed windfall. Sylla still has a contract with the Royal Blues until 2028.
