Grammy host Trevor Noah mocks Nicki Minaj for her Trump support. The US President reacts by threatening to sue and calls Noah a “failure.”

On Sunday, February 1, 2026, the 68th Grammys were awarded in Los Angeles. Not only were artists honored for their musical achievements, but one artist was also heavily criticized. US rapper Nicki Minaj was targeted by host Trevor Noah.

Trevor Noah plays the Trump impersonator

During his opening monologue for the ceremony, the host spoke about the artists in the audience, such as Miley Cyrus and Pharrell Williams. Shortly afterwards he also clarified: “Nicki Minaj is not here.” Then Trevor Noah went into more detail about the situation and explained his interpretation of the musician’s absence. “She is still in the Trump White House discussing very important issues.”

Amid laughter from those in attendance, Noah mocked the two allies by imitating the president’s voice. So he said in the role of Donald Trump: “Well, Nicki, I have the biggest butt. I have it.” He added: “I know they say it’s you, but it’s me.”

Nicki Minaj with a series of pro-Trump actions

With his imitation, Trevor Noah alludes to the rapper’s support for the US President. She has made this very clear again and again with various campaigns over the past few months. At the end of January, the 43-year-old took part in a US Treasury Department event alongside Donald Trump during a trip to Washington DC. She announced that she was the president’s “number one fan,” while he called her “great.”

She received a lot of backlash and criticism for her statements and actions. However, she responded unimpressed to the negative voices: “The hate or what people say doesn’t affect me at all,” she said at the event with Trump, adding: “It actually motivates me to support him even more, and it will motivate all of us to support him even more.”

White House PR disses Trevor Noah back

The White House team is also behind her. Communications director Steven Cheung posted a reaction to the Grammy host’s jokes via

Donald Trump threatens Trevor Noah

Not only his communications director, but also the president himself reacted to the former “Daily Show” host’s moderation via Truth Social. He sharply criticized the entire ceremony and called it “unwatchable”.

He then also responded to Trevor Noah’s jokes about himself. He said during the award ceremony for Song of the Year, which went to Billie Eilish: “This is a Grammy that every artist wants – almost as much as Trump wants Greenland.” However, he went one better: “That makes sense because since Epstein left, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton.”

Donald Trump appeared angry on the Truth Social platform, strongly attacked the former late-night host and even threatened him with legal action. He wrote: “Noah falsely claimed through me that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. That’s not true! I can’t speak for Bill, but I’ve never been to Epstein Island, anywhere near it, and until this false and defamatory statement tonight, I’ve never been accused of being there, even by the fake news media.”

He then continued his criticism by saying, “The host, Trevor Noah, whoever he is, is almost as bad as Jimmy Kimmel at the low-ratings Oscars… Noah, a total loser, had better get his facts straight ASAP.”

Finally, he announced, “I’m sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, stupid MC for a lot of money.” And then concluded: “Get ready Noah, I’m going to have fun with you!”

Neither the moderator himself nor representatives from the Grammys have yet reacted to the US President’s words. There is currently no statement from Nicki Minaj about this either.
